A Milestone You Can Touch: Our First Product “Assembled in Houston”. Chapter 16
A Moment to Remember: Last week marked a major milestone as the first product was assembled at our new production facility in Houston—by none other than our Business Development Manager, Karin Weigelt, herself. With that, the official starting signal has been given: GETT is now manufacturing in the USA.
What had only existed in plans, CAD drawings, and site analyses is now a tangible reality. Our first industrial-grade keyboard—manufactured in Texas—represents a significant step in our journey to combine German engineering expertise with the dynamic pace of the U.S. market.
Why This Is More Than Just a Symbolic Step
Our new facility in Houston is much more than just a place where parts come together. It’s a promise to our customers and partners: we’re here, we’re delivering quality, and we understand what it takes to succeed in American manufacturing:
- Local production = shorter lead times: In many industries—especially those involving sensitive materials like adhesive layers—every minute counts. A local supply network not only saves time but ensures consistent quality. A recent visit to a Texas-based supplier reaffirmed this. Interestingly, more than ten years ago, this very supplier operated out of the same building we now call home. Sometimes, things really do come full circle.
- Hands-on experience with the U.S. manufacturing landscape: Building our production line was a step-by-step process, supported externally but guided by a deep understanding of how to blend German industrial standards with Texan pragmatism. The result: production processes that are both efficient and scalable.
- Market access through strong networks: That same week, we had the chance to support the team from one of a cutting-edge German startups bringing smart IBC solutions to the U.S. market. Their first customer visit was a textbook example of American decisiveness: the owner of a car wash was immediately convinced—and signed the deal that very same day. You couldn’t ask for a better start.
A Solid Foundation for the Next Steps
Our first two production workstations are up and running—and they’re just the beginning. Over the coming months, we’ll ramp up production, standardize processes, and expand our local team. Houston offers the ideal environment: a strong industrial infrastructure, proximity to customers and suppliers, and a business-friendly climate that fosters innovation and entrepreneurship.
How we wrapped up the week?
A team lunch—great conversation, renewed motivation, and of course, a toast to our very first product proudly “Made in Houston.”
In our next post, we’ll share highlights from the Automate trade show in Detroit, where we were represented by our Global Key Account Manager, Andrea Ebersbach. One thing is clear: GETT is ready for its next phase of growth—locally, internationally, and most importantly, with real substance.
